Cairns Discovery Tours is a local tour company owned and operated by myself, Maryanne Jacques. I was born in Adelaide, lived in Darwin, Alice Springs and Melbourne before moving to Cairns in 1995. I see myself now as a local. I have been in tourism all my life, over 40 years. I worked for Cairns Discovery Tours from 1997 in sales for 8 years before starting my own tour company Adventure North Australia in 2005 operating tours to Cooktown and Indigenous Cultural experiences. I recently sold the company in May 2019. I was so excited when the previous owner advised he was selling and I proudly bought Cairns Discovery Tours in 2012. Cairns Discovery Tours is one of the hidden gems of Tropical North Queensland and is a wonderful introduction to our beautiful city and surrounding region. From Monday 8th July 2019 we have moved to a shared retail space, with Cairns Electric Bikes on the Esplanade, opposite the Reef Hotel/Casino. Supplying Everything Astronomical, Optical and Fossicking while providing the best experience in the natural world possible for you, is our goal. Over 35 years experience as Amateur astronomers, Birdwatchers and fossickers has taught us the best ways to get you out under the night sky, in nature or rock hounding the fun and easy way. We stock products that are durable, easy to use and above all, make these hobbies (and for many people professions), able to be enjoyed with ease. Our store in the Pier Shopping Centre has a wide range of products in stock plus we also service telescopes and binoculars on site. On the fossicking front we are the Cairns Authorised distributor for quality US made Garrett detectors & accessories, including gold pans, picks, gold detectors, magnifiers & more. Keeping an eye on the sky, we are the Authorised distributors for Davis Instruments professional weather stations in FNQ. We conduct astronomy dinner tours from April until November to coincide with the dry season. Our Planetarium shows with our Mobile Planetarium are available for hire from a 1/2 day to a full week where we come to you.
