So many people overlook the need for roof maintenance either because they cant see the roof and assume that it is all okay and the roof has not leaked, or because they are under the impression that it is pointless to clean a roof as they know that it will only end up dirty again over a period of time. The thing that most people do not realise is that a roof surface is just like any other surface that you can see on your home. It requires regular cleaning and maintenance to not only enhance the appearance of the roof but also to maintain the structural integrity of the roof over long periods of time. Mold, moss, algae, lichen, dirt and silt will all build up and grow on a roof surface over time. On a tiled roof this can not only cause the concrete tiles to become very brittle over time, but also can cause the tiles to lift as the moss grows in the water channels in the tiles. This eventually increases the risk of broken tiles which can often lead to water entering your roof cavity in times of heavy rain. On a corrugated iron roof, this can react with the paint on your roof and cause the need for roof painting and restoration at much shorter intervals than if the roof was regularly maintained.
