THE AMBIENCE Diners arrive through a covered garden entrance, past a raised wooden rotunda to the left and a small water feature beyond which there is outdoor seating, particularly enjoyable on warm spring and summer evenings. Two huge wooden elephants flank the front doorway and inside there is a bar to the right and a service desk to the left. Inside, as out, there is seating for 80, wooden carvings, figurines, artefacts and pictures of the respected Thai royal family; a large glass display cabinet packed with artefacts and golden reindeer - divides the room. There are octagonal windows, loads of silk flowers, elephant candleholders, red and gold painted walls and a royal purple ceiling along with a high atrium sporting a Thai flag and hanging silks.

Welcome to The Scottish Prince, one of the top restaurants in Palm Beach! The restaurant also has an amazing bar full of hundreds of whiskies from around the world, and boasts a delicious cocktail offering. We named our restaurant and whisky in homage to the ship of the same name that ran aground on the Gold Coast in 1887… “On the 3rd February 1887, under the command of Captain William of Australia on the final stages of a voyage from Glasgow to Brisbane. At 11:40pm the master left the deck, leaving the second mate in charge—who had never sailed these waters before. Shortly after midnight the vessel ran aground off Main Beach. Several unsuccessful attempts were made by the steamers Tweed, Otter and Gunga to tow the Scottish Prince off the bar. Within a few days, as south-easterly weather conditions deteriorated, the vessel keeled over and was abandoned. Over the following weeks the decks opened up allowing cases of cargo including sewing machines, drapery, whisky and beer to be washed ashore. The wreck can be found about 80m from shore, directly opposite the Sea World carpark, Main Beach.” The Scottish Prince was built in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1878 at Alexander Hall & Sons Shipyard. The Scottish Prince was one of the many ships that helped to build our young country, bringing supplies, building materials, immigrants, and whisky to our shores for the 9 years of it’s life!
