O’Mara’s Hotel was built in 1910-11 on the site of the original single story hotel. The Sportsman’s Arm’s Hotel as it was known had been operating in Maryland Street since 1873 until it was destroyed by fire. The proprietor Mr Michael Mara changed his name at that time to Michael O’Mara and so the new larger, double story hotel took on the name of O’Mara’s Hotel and has been known as that ever since. The hotel still has the Olde World Charm that made O’Mara’s a big part of Stanthorpe life. There is even a resident ghost that still makes an appearance now and again. O’Mara’s is the place to go when celebrating anything from birthdays to christenings, from small intimate groups to large parties.
