Ali Baba Kebabs is a family-owned business that started in 1979 when Mick and Karl Marjan opened their first store in Woden shopping Centre, Canberra. At the time, it was a novelty to introduce the authentic flavors of the Middle East to Australians, but the Marjan brothers' vision paid off. The locals were curious and excited to try something new, and soon the store became the talk of the town. The name of the business is inspired by Baba, which means father, and Ali, the son of Mick who was born at the time of the store's opening. Ali Baba still works in the business, alongside other family members, bringing the same passion to customers across the country. Today, 40 years later, Ali Baba Kebabs has grown to over 28 stores across Australia, and the authentic Middle Eastern flavors are now their identity in the community.
