Our psychologist services can help with a broad range of issues. We offer professional marriage & relationship counselling as well as individual counselling. All of our counsellors have had many years of experience helping their clients to more effectively manage common difficulties such as anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief, stress and anger management. Our counsellors are bound by ethical codes of conduct and are trained in a variety of therapeutic approaches and disciplines including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and other change modalities. Shellharbour Hospital was officially opened in January 1986 and is located 24km south of Wollongong in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven Local Health District. The hospital is a busy acute care facility which provides emergency services, elective surgical services, general medical, antenatal and primary family health care, satellite renal dialysis and adolescent and adult mental health services on site. It is an accredited health care facility with the Australian Council on Health Care Standards (ACHS) and is recognised as providing a high standard of care to the community. Shellharbour Hospital (Class C1) is a 197 bed facility providing a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services. The inpatient services include aged care, medical, surgical, mental health and acute medical assessment inpatient beds, plus a Day surgery Unit. The operating suite performs mainly low risk general, laparoscopic, gynaecological, ophthalmic, dental and minor orthopaedic surgery. Outpatients services include: Infectious Diseases Clinic, Dental, Renal, Pre admission and anaesthetic, Cardiology Clinic (including stress testing), Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy Clinic, Speech Pathology, Respiratory Clinic, General Surgery Clinic, Antenatal Clinic, Geriatric Clinic, Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Asthma Clinic, Plastics Clinic, Diabetes Clinic. Shellharbour Hospital plays a role in the Northern Illawarra Hospitals Group Bed Management Policy by providing services and support to the other hospitals in the hub to enhance patient flow. This hospital is fully accredited by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS).

Counselling usually deals with present issues that are worked through with a supportive and thorough discussion. Counselling is more concerned with immediate life situations that have caused confusion or distress. Psychotherapy is a form of treatment that goes deeper and is usually longer-term than counselling. It can help to uncover and change a person’s entrenched beliefs and behaviours which have had a negative impact on their life and relationships. The goal of psychotherapy is to increase a person’s self-awareness by examining their unconscious patterns. Nobody is immune to some of life’s difficult periods, and having support is crucial towards better mental health. As a counsellor, I love to see children and adults gain the strength they need to overcome personal challenges.

Not only do we fully bulk bill with a GP referral (meaning we cost you nothing), we have five locations across the Illawarra and the best part about us is that we walk and talk. Yep, no offices for us. We prefer to run our sessions outside in the sunshine while we watch the waves crash on the beach or walk around the calm lake listening to the birds. We have a number of Psychologists on board who speciailise in anxiety, depression, post traumatic stress disorder, relationships, drug and alcohol issues, adolescents and children, grief, weight loss, motivation, self confidence, behavioural issues and many more presentations!

Working in private practice allows me the privilege of supporting many people, from all walks of life, presenting a variety of different issues and concerns. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Counselling from the Australian College of Applied Psychology. I hold registration with the Australian Counselling Association and hold additional qualifications and training such as, Narrative therapy, Trauma training, Youth mental health and many more. I am also a Mental Health First Aid Instructor which allows me opportunity to equipped people with the knowledge and confidence to recognise, connect and respond to someone experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis.
