Established by Geoff Smith in 2016, Cassowary Coast Counselling offers counselling for teens and adults in the Cassowary Coast. Geoff practises a person-centred Gestalt approach to therapy that respects the individual's internal experience. Geoff is a Registered Counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association and holds a Graduate Certificate in Gestalt Therapy (Gestalt Therapy Brisbane), and a Diploma of Counselling (Australian Institute of Professional Counsellors). Geoff completed his Master's Degree in Gestalt Therapy in 2020. Prior to establishing Cassowary Coast Counselling, Geoff was a residential worker with Save the Children Australia where he supported Unaccompanied Minors at Australia's offshore processing centre in Nauru. This role followed his position with Uniting Care Community where he worked within a 24/7 therapeutic residential facility, supporting complex to extreme-needs young people. As a result, Geoff has extensive knowledge and experience in the contemporary practice of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and Trauma Informed Care; supporting and helping children who are in crisis. I could not ask for a more professional, caring and considerate counsellor to heal my son. The sessions have been absolutely amazing and the support my son has received here has been a huge blessing & life saving. There is no sense of being rushed or ushered out in a hurry. In fact, the time the counsellor has spent with my son has always been generous. Above all, the counsellor seems to have a knack of engaging with youth and proving positive guidance. I did not expect my son to open up and express his grief as easily as he did but it's because he has felt so comfortable and safe here. We make the trip from Cairns and it's well worth the drive for the service our son has received.
