I teach from my home studio and have created beautifully illustrated music songbooks for all the beginner levels into the more intermediate and advanced stages of learning. Each song is selected to increase your awareness of rhythm and melodic form, while also giving you a foundational understanding of the patterns behind music, ways to accompany a melody creatively and skills to recognise notation signs and symbols. It's all about the movement of the melody. You'll feel the rhythm, express yourself stunningly and be inspired to create as you go! Fully qualified instructor with over 20 years of teaching experience in the music classroom, music director of various music ensembles and professional music tutor for the individual student. I hold a Bachelor of Music with a piano major and flute minor. Students of all ages are welcome! Classes are motivating, encouraging and employ a range of styles such as chord-based methods, contemporary popular music, score reading and classical AMEB standards.

I provide tuition for guitar (electric and acoustic), and bass. I always make lessons fun, with 30 years of playing experience and having taught my first student in 1993. I possess an extensive knowledge of music theory and harmony, and have a home studio setup for teaching and recording. My music lessons help students get the FACCTS. (Fun, Achievement, Confidence, Creativity and Teamwork.) - to discover and enjoy making music, and explore their abilities to learn a new skill. I teach all styles, from kids aged 6 upwards learning the basics, to pop, rock, blues and jazz. The fastest way to progress as a student is to practice at home, building the muscle (including brain) memory - so to ignite the passion for playing, I teach tunes that the student loves, right from the start. We gently incorporate technique and music theory through those tunes, as well as through exercises that ensure that they become a well-rounded musician. I am a registered AMEB (Australian Music Examinations Board) enroller and will help you or your child prepare and pass AMEB or "rock school" music grades. The learning environment at my Diddillibah studio is relaxed but professional, with free wi-fi available and I possess a current QLD "Working with Children" Blue Card. As a student, at the end of each term you receive a professionally recorded and mixed MP3 recording of a song that you have learned. You can use this to track your progress and play to your family, friends or the world! I will also keep a log of your progress and set weekly homework to keep you moving forward on your musical journey. Price is $20 for small group (2-3 students) lessons and $35 for individual lessons. Group lessons are a popular choice as they are lots of fun through being in a team. Christensen's offer both 'Music Discovery' classes for children 4 to 7 years plus Musical Instrument lessons for all ages on guitar, ukulele, keyboard, piano, violin, saxophone, flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone and bass guitar. Music Discovery Classes (4 maximum per class) : Young children can make the ideal start with music through these exclusive well structured and fun small group classes. Children learn about and gain hands-on experience with many different musical instruments and gain a good basic understanding of essential music theory, signs and symbols. Children's Instrument Lessons (2 to 3 max group classes) : Children of all ages from 6 yrs can learn instrument playing skills through our balanced but easy approach. Our learning material is designed to develop a student's natural 'ear', feel and rhythm abilities (which is overlooked by most schools and teachers), as well as teaching music reading and theory in an easy-to-understand way. Christensen's produce much of their student learning material themselves including enjoyable original songs with play-along accompaniments. Note: We don't do exams which place unnecessary pressure on students and can grossly limit a player's diversity of skills and musical abilities. The teacher is Rod Christensen who is a skilled multi-instrumentalist, professional musician and music teacher with over 40 years experience including having taught as an instrumental music teacher for Education Queensland. We also service and repair most Wind and Brass musical instruments such as saxophones, flutes, clarinets, trumpets and trombones.
