O’Mara’s Hotel was built in 1910-11 on the site of the original single story hotel. The Sportsman’s Arm’s Hotel as it was known had been operating in Maryland Street since 1873 until it was destroyed by fire. The proprietor Mr Michael Mara changed his name at that time to Michael O’Mara and so the new larger, double story hotel took on the name of O’Mara’s Hotel and has been known as that ever since.
