About
The Royal Hotel is rich with history, the first timber version of the hotel was built around 1840 but it tragically burnt down in the early 1894. The story goes that the ladies of the community were fed up with their men spending too much time at the pub, so they torched it! The original timber building was replaced with a stone building in 1895 and it is still standing proudly today. In 1880 the hotel became a railhead (where a railway line ends). In the old days, it used to be a three-week trip to Sydney but suddenly the railway line arrived and the trip became less than 24 hours. Back then, there were more than 3,500 people living here whereas numbers have now dwindled to just 180. Fire seems to be a recurring theme at The Royal because in 1930, a traveling salesman left a candle next to a window and the curtains caught alight. But just as the fabled phoenix arises from the ashes, so too does the Royal Hotel Capertee.

About
Brabham’s Outdoor Power Centre is a family owned and operated Bathurst business. Doris & Eric Brabham opened Bathurst Paint Hardware & Gift store in William Street in the early 1950’s. In the late 1960’s when situated in George Street we were appointed the STIHL distributor and service agent for the Central Tablelands. This part of our business grew dramatically as did the STIHL company in Australia, placing us as one of the top state dealers. A change took place in 1991 and we built new premises on the corner of Rankin and Durham streets (on the highway). We now specialise in small motors, chainsaws, mowers, brushcutters, generators and lots more. We service all brands. The business is now expertly run by Wendy, Clive, Paul, Beth (who has been with us 20 years) & Peter Lillie. We pride ourselves on our friendly personal service and quick turn around on all repairs. Brabhams Outdoor Power Centre are experts in the full range of Stihl Chainsaws and Power Equipment and stock the sales leading range of Honda Generators. We also specialise in small motors, mowers, brushcutters, garden power tools and lots more. We service all brands and supply products from manufacturers such as Stihl, Honda, Compak, Wacker Neuson, Meindl and Hurley’s Fly Fishing.

About
THE RYLSTONE CLUB….. BY J.W.TINDALE After World War II was finished, the Returned Service Men were invited to join the Rylstone Returned Service League Sub Branch. They held the monthly meetings in the Small Hall at 8 p.m. the first Saturday of the month. It was at one of these meetings that the idea of having their own Club Room was discussed. Several ideas were put to the meeting but no final decision was achieved except that a Committee be formed to seek the possibility of a Club of their own. Six of the new members were selected to form a committee. At that period, Glen Davis Shale Oil was closing and the people were leaving the site. Kerney’s Butchers Shop, opposite the Police Station, was closing so the committee paid the first two weeks rent for this building out of their own pockets We reported back to the RSL Meeting and told them what we had done. It was received with reservation, but the meeting approved of our action and gave us the Green Light to proceed. So now to get some finance: it was decided to have a Wool Drive. We sent out circulars telling people what we had in mind and we would like the Wool growers to donate a Fleece of Wool. It was a success. Some gave several. Mr. R.E Evans of Dabee gave us one hundred pounds which was a lot of money in those days; anyway we sold the wool which was bringing good money then. So now we had the Building and some finance – next, a working bee to convert a Butchers Shop into a Club Room. This completed, we purchased a few simple chairs, a 3/4 size billiard table, A S.H domestic fridge, a six penny S.H poker machine from Randwick Business Men’s Club in Sydney, a dart board, some floor coverings, and small items such as glasses etc.

About
In the late 1940’s, after returning from War Service, Mr Peter Hart purchased the Pharmacy at 78 Goulburn Street, Crookwell and began trading as Peter Hart Pharmacy. Mr Hart continued to run the Pharmacy for over twenty years until his death in 1970. After his passing, his wife Mrs Alice Hart continued to own and work in the pharmacy, however she required a Pharmacist-in-charge. In 1971, having completed his Bachelor of Pharmacy a year prior, Mr Ken Wicks accepted this opportunity and moved to Crookwell from his home town of Temora, NSW. During this time Mrs Hart also decided to make a subtle change to the name of the Pharmacy, to its current title of Hart’s Pharmacy. Mrs Hart and Ken continued to work under this arrangement until early in 1985 when it came time for Mrs Hart to retire. At this time Ken purchased the business from Mrs Hart, and chose to maintain the current name of Hart’s Pharmacy for two reasons; Ken and his family enjoyed a close relationship with Mrs Hart and her children, and the Hart’s business had formed an important part of Crookwell’s history for over 40 years, and Ken wanted to respect this by honouring and maintaining this name.

Sandy Hollow Tourist Park is an absolutely magnificent venue. The setting is beautiful—plenty of nice grassy areas to spread out, and the camp kitchen area was superb. Hosts are brilliant.
