Railway Friendly Bar is a Byron Bay restaurant and music venue. We have a wide selection of menu items including fresh local seafood and light snacks to go with something from the bar. There is a great little music venue, bar and restaurant - right on the old Railway Station in Byron Bay . It's the only pub in Australia to have featured live music seven nights a week, for over 30 years. The official name of the Railway Hotel in Byron Bay is "The Railway Friendly Bar" but the locals affectionately refer to it as "The Rails'. . .

First established in 1892, rebuilt in 1897 & 1936 after fires burnt the first two versions to the ground, the 1936 rebuild is the Great Northern you see today. The “front bar” is a perfect example of a proper, old Australian Hotel Bar, rich with character and great place to have a beer and watch some live sport. Not to mention the top-quality live music by the very best blues, rock & folk artists the Northern Rivers region has to offer. Several renovations through the years has given us the current layout, including the back room which was added in 1994. This, purpose built, live music venue is known all around the world and has hosted hundreds of iconic live concerts by countless bands that include Paul Kelly, Fat Freddies Drop & Ocean Alley just to name a few. You can catch a show here almost every weekend of the year. In 2021, the addition of the Byron Bay Duelling Pianos to our cocktail bar has been popular beyond belief amongst locals and tourists alike. Already boasting some of the best piano players from around Australia on a weekly basis, we are now looking forward to welcoming some of the very best in the world with the best players from Las Vegas’ joining the team very soon! With a decade of music industry experience, Managing Director Laura Kelly has personally sourced the talent for Upon A Moment, ensuring only the best entertainment is available for you to choose from. Lani & Steve are an acoustic duo who cover a diverse repetoire of all of your favourite cover songs. From Norah Jones to Joss Stone, Jack Johnson to Bill Withers, Neo Classic Soul to Pop favourites and everything in between! With acoustic guitar, harmonies and filler instruments, Lani and Steve have a beautiful synergy and together perform with style and enthusiasm.

Come along on the 2nd Sunday of each month to Coronation Park. There are over 250 stall holders every month with a large variety of goods for sale, including art, craft, food & drinks, bric a brac, fresh produce as well as therapeutic goods and services. On top of that there is plenty of entertainment for the family, including live music, candle making, face painting, hair braiding, sand art and bouncy castles.
