In August 2017 we made the decision to get two bee hives to help pollenate our pumpkin patch. In 2015 the pumpkin patch produced over 2 tonne of pumpkin but the following two years we were lucky to get 200-300kgs. Something was missing. We came to the conclusion it was the BEES After being approached by a local Apiarist who wanted to put some hives on our local Sugar cane farm our interest soon quickly grew and as I said in August we got our first two Nucs (or nucleus colonies). As we learnt and experienced more and more about the bees we became hooked. It wasn’t long before we were extracting our first batch of Honey. 27kgs If I remember correctly. We bottled it and put it in our roadside stall down the front of our property in Teven, NSW and it all sold within 2 weeks. That was it we had a taste for it now. We started our Bee journey saying we will only get 2 hives, September 2018 we bought 4 new Nucs to bring our Apiary to 11 hives. At the beginning of January 2022 we were just short of 100 hives. Then the floods hit in February. Unfortunately we lost 20 full hives with Supers.
