On the night of the graduation Serena was asked to become a teacher at the school in addition to work as a model and compere. Serena started the following week, her first lesson teaching makeup and skin care (which she had also trained in). Working was exciting, compering & modelling regularly for David Jones stores plus many other clients. In 1988 Serena opened her own School of Deportment & Model Agency in Rockhampton, Central Queensland. In that first year Serena produced and choreographed A Masquerade, A gala Fashion Show for the Qld Spastic Welfare League and was fortunate to work with the Stage Manager from the Sydney Opera House who's knowledge of stage blocking and lighting proved invaluable. During Serena's time there June Dally-Watkins, Peter Chadwick, Anthony Leigh Dower, Richard de Chazal and many others have judged model competitions for Serena and her students have been winning State & National titles since 1990. Fashion parades were a regular event in CQ and Serena produced five Rockhampton Agricultural Show Parades to crowds in excess of 20 000 people over a three day period using local and Brisbane models. Designer Awards, shopping centre parades were also regular events. In addition Serena regularly worked for television station as a make-up artist, and has continued to do so on the Sunshine Coast for TV and photographic shoots.
