The Farmer's Wife first opened her doors in November 2015 after discovering the beautiful old 1880s building earlier that year. Triple-fronted bay windows on either side of the big old front door proudly standing on the original bluestone porch were all it took for Bec Mason to fall in love. Instantly she knew this Farmer's Wife had a destiny within the walls of this grand old girl. And so the story begins Bec Mason first began her career as an interior designer cultivating her flair for decoration and design with her own sense of style, never one to follow trends, she always strayed from the mainstream crowd with an almost whimsical and romantic look on life. Bec developed her career in various roles as a homewares buyer within the retail industry, satisfying her love of product, window dressing, and merchandising design. Then after a wet and rainy day mushrooming in the pine forests of Creswick with her much-adored Farmer, she discovered the beautiful old store and dreamed about all the wonderful things she could bring to the little town of Creswick and the rest they say is history. The store is a reflection of Bec's style, always seeking simplicity, quality, and the enduring beauty of things from the past. This combination of beautiful quality clothing and homewares with her eclectic mix of preloved treasures provides the unique shopping experience that is The Farmer's Wife.

In 1875, Gordon was declared a parish, and St Patrick's Church, though then incomplete, was dedicated by Dr. Goold. A Catholic school was opened at the St Patrick's Hall in 1890, with over 70 children attending. In 1915, the Sisters of St Joseph began teaching at Gordon. They lived in the Gordon Convent, which was then the second presbytery, situated on the northern side of the town. This was moved to the site of the present convent in 1938. The convent was rebuilt in 1965, and was opened by Archbishop Fox. The original section of the current school building was blessed and opened in 1930 by Archbishop Mannix. Provision of water supply and toilet facilities occurred between 1940 and 1960, with an extension to the school of an extra classroom, and small office. In 1993, the building was further extended and refurbished. A multi-purpose shelter was built in 2000. In 2005 a double portable was placed on the hill overlooking our oval and now serves as our Visual Arts and Japanese learning spaces. The school has a indoor gathering space which serves as an indoor gymnasium and gathering space for assembly as well as our Before and After School Program. ​

The concept of Tuki began in 1985, when the farm was first open to guests as a trout fishing venue. At this time the largest commercial flock of Tukidale sheep grazed on the property, hence the name Tuki. Tukidale sheep are a course wool breed, producing wool for carpets. They are a genetic variation of the Romney Marsh. The unique Tukidale breed was established an s a breed in New Zealand. The first stone cottages were opened in 1993, built with blue stone from the property, they blend well with the dry stonewalls that Don and Robert have created. The next stone cottages were completed in 1997 and feature furniture locally made utilising some of the aged timber from the property. Further cottages were completed in 1999. Don lived on the farm since the 1940’s, his late wife Violet and two children Jenny and Robert created the concept of Tuki together. Jenny has gone on to manage her own business in Ballarat, and now Robert, Jan, David and Alistair keep the concept going. Don passed away in 2007, but the product of his vision remains. The trout that stock the ponds are reared on the property in a variety of growing ponds. The good quality water they live in contribute to the wonderful flavour of our trout. The water that is provided for drinking and the spas is high quality water with excellent mineral qualities, it is also filtered. The lamb & beef products on the menu come from our own flock; they are pasture fed so giving a wonderful flavour. We pursue organic & sustainable principles.
