The diverse ecology of the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, is my inspiration to create mainly mixed medium expressionistic work using mark-making as a means of conveying the sensitivity of the work. My career has been in Marketing and Advertising working Internationally. After emigrating to Australia 16 years ago whilst working as a Business Consultant I studied Visual Art part-time. After several years of formal studies my career evolved into a full time occupation - furthering studies in ceramics, print-making and life drawing. We are an Australian based wholesaler of African Bolga Baskets, which get their name from the town, Bolgatanga, where they are made. We work directly with the local Ghanaian weavers and co-operatives in Bolgatanga and surrounding villages in the Upper East Region of Ghana to produce these beautiful and practical handmade baskets. The baskets are woven from elephant grass, which grows abundantly in this region of sub-Saharan Africa. The tough nature of the elephant grass, together with the skilful weaving technique of the artisans, passed from generation to generation, makes these individually woven baskets strong, durable and flexible. The handles of the baskets are covered with cured leather for reinforcement and style. Goat leather is the most preferred choice as goats are the main source of protein for many locals.
