Tamworth is a city in the New England region of New South Wales, located mid way between Brisbane and Sydney.
Known as the “First City of Lights”, due to it being the first town in Australia to turn on electric lights in 1888 and, it is most famous as the “Country Music Capital of Australia”.
Not to be missed are the Hands of Fame Park, which contains the handprints of more than 300 country music stars, and the mighty 12-metre-high Golden Guitar which houses some spectacular memorabilia in its Tourist Centre.
A major service and retail hub to the New England and North West slopes regions, Tamworth also boasts all the big major retail outlets including some very upper class fine dining restaurants and hip cafes and an abundance of specialty boutique stores popping up every year. The town sports a popular local swimming pool, some beautiful parks including the Anzac and Bicentennial Park and Tamworth Regional Botanic Gardens, and is also serviced by a major airport with flights to most major cities daily.
