About Dubbo

Located in the Orana region of NSW, Dubbo is a major road and rail hub to the surrounding areas of NSW. Five hours drive or 303 km’s north-west from Sydney it sits in fertile Macquarie Valley where the Newell, Mitchell and Golden Highways meet and is linked by national highways to Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Newcastle.
A popular theory is that Dubbo is a mis-pronounciation of the word “Thubbo” from the Wiradjuri language.
Dubbo’s centre is an important hub for the neighbouring towns and is a major supply stop for many due to not only its major retailers such as Woolworths and Target but also due to the unique boutiques and stores. It is also home to 20 schools and colleges and a campus of the Charles Sturt University.
There is plenty for families, some of the major attractions include the Taronga Western Plains Zoo, home endangered and rare animals, the Old Dubbo Gaol for a day steeped in Australia’s criminal history and the Shoyoen Sister City Garden.
